Using wood chips in your yard can be an excellent natural ground cover and can keep the weeds at bay. There are several ways to get them year round!
- Call local tree removal companies or arborists. A lot of times, they will let you sign up for wood chips to be delivered to your residence for free.
- Visit ChipDrop. This website allows you to sign up for free wood chip delivery in your area.
- Search local Facebook groups. Or ask someone where they got their free wood chips!
I have called a few local tree removal companies before and asked if they had wood chips to deliver. I put my name and address down, and they added me to their list. They delivered a load of wood chips to my driveway when they were in the area cutting down trees / tree limbs. The size of the load can vary. They said that they had two different sized trucks. And we did ask for it to not be 20 yards, and more like 10 yards.
A good way to find companies that deliver are: to google search for them in your area, and call and ask questions, like how many yards to expect, when you can expect the wood chips, and what trees might be in the mix.
