One of my favorite things to do is to pick up free coffee grounds! Starbucks gives away their used coffee grounds. Typically they have a small bin inside the store labeled. Sometimes I will go in and it is empty so I ask if they have any. If a Starbucks does not regularly set them out, I ask them. One time I drove around to as many Starbucks’ as I could to get coffee grounds for my garden, and I ended up a bunch of bags.
Plants that like coffee grounds:
- Blueberries
- Azaleas
- Hydrangeas
- Rhododendrons
- Roses
For those plants, I will often just put the grounds around the plant.
Otherwise, I mix the rest of the coffee grounds into my compost bins.
Not all plants like coffee grounds, so I try not to put too much into the the compost bins.
*Just make sure that if you put the coffee grounds into your trunk that you either line the trunk or put them in a container. The coffee grounds can leak, and wet coffee grounds eventually mold.
